Learning in the open involves risk but can have some enormous benefits as well. On the risk side, you are opening up your work to public scrutiny, comment and (possibly) re-use. On the benefit side, knowing you are contributing to a public resource that has value beyond the life of a course may motivate you to put your best effort forward. Either way, the process of publishing and sharing your work publicly adds to your digital literacy skills and teaches you something about participating in a learning community beyond the confines of an institution.
